Since its inception in 2002, Sinking Ship has created, produced, directed and written some of Canada’s most successful children’s programmes to date including “Are we there yet?: World Adventure,” “Roll Play,” “The Jungle Room,” “This is Daniel Cook,” “This is Emily Yeung,” “I dare you!” and, for parents, “Gorilla Parenting from The Jungle Room.” “Dino Dan,” their next big hit which blends live-action with photo-real CGI dinosaurs, arrives on Canadian and American airwaves in 2010.
Always moving from strength-to-strength, Sinking Ship has won 12 and been nominated for over 20 prestigious international awards for children’s programming. Most recently, “Are we there yet?: World Adventure” and “Roll Play” both won Alliance for Children and Television Awards in 2009 and were named as 2008 Prix Jeunesse Finalists for the Best up to 6 Non-Fiction category. In addition, “Are we there yet?: World Adventure” recently received two 2009 Gemini award nominations. In 2007, “Roll Play” and “This is Emily Yeung” received Alliance for Children and Television Awards. In 2005, “This is Daniel Cook” received three Alliance for Children and Television Awards including Grand Prize for Best Program while the companion website — www.thisisdanielcook.com — won the prestigious Prix Jeunesse International Web Prize in 2006.
With award-winning content, broadcasters in Canada and around the world air Sinking Ship’s innovative series. In Canada, Sinking Ship series air on five networks. Internationally, Sinking Ship series are seen in over 130 countries on 27 different broadcasters. Thirteen international broadcasters air “Are we there yet?: World Adventure,” from Playhouse Disney Australia to TV Nanny Russia. In addition, “Roll Play” airs on Al Jazerra, Disney Australia and V’me US. “I dare you!” airs on South Korea’s C4U Media and New Zealand’s The Arts Channel. Playhouse Disney US, Disney Japan, Discovery Latin America and Rainbow Television in Beirut currently broadcast “This is Daniel Cook” and “This is Emily Yeung.”
Sinking Ship is honoured to work alongside distinguished organizations and artists. To date, major groups involved in productions include the National Geographic Society, UNICEF, the Heart & Stroke Foundation and Famous PEOPLE Players. Talented musical artists such as Broken Social Scene, Patrick Pentland of Sloan, Sam Roberts and Randy Bachman — to name a few — have all penned original songs for the award-winning series “Roll Play.”
